NBA Pick'em Pool: One Weekend Slate, Every Week
The NBA plays almost every night for six months, which is exactly why most basketball pick'em pools are dead by Thanksgiving — nobody is going to pick 50 games a week. Pick'em Builder runs your NBA pool the way football pools work: one slate per week, built from the Friday-through-Sunday games, with the eight best matchups chosen for you.
Your group picks once a week, each game locks at its own tip-off, and the standings update live as the final buzzers sound. Run it straight up, against the spread, with confidence points, or as a survivor pool.

How an NBA pick'em pool works here
- 1
Pick a format and a length
Weekly pick'em straight up or against the spread, confidence points, or survivor. Run it all season with quarter standings, or just for one weekend. You can start any week — missing opening night doesn't matter, because your standings begin with your first slate.
- 2
Get a weekend slate automatically
Each week we pull the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games and pick the 8 most interesting matchups. Want a Wednesday-night rivalry game in there instead? Swap any game, midweek included, or bump the slate to 12 or 16 games.
- 3
Send one link to the group chat
Players join with a name and email — no app, no password — and make their picks on a phone in a couple of minutes. A reminder goes out before the weekend so nobody forgets.
- 4
Let it score itself
Every pick locks when its game tips off, results come in live, and the standings update on every phone. Sunday night, the whole pool gets a recap of the weekend.
NBA pool formats
Every format runs on the same weekend slate, so you can switch styles next season without relearning anything.
Weekly pick'em (straight up)
Pick the winner of each game on the slate. Most correct picks wins the week, and the season race runs through April. The friendliest format for a mix of diehards and casual fans.
Set this up →Against the spread
NBA spreads get big — double-digit favorites are routine when a contender hosts a rebuilding team. Picking against the number turns those lopsided games back into real decisions.
Set this up →Confidence points
Rank your picks from 8 down to 1 (or up to 16 on a bigger slate). Your surest pick is worth the most. A natural fit for the NBA, where a few games each weekend really are near-locks and the rest are coin flips.
Set this up →Survivor
Pick one team to win each weekend, never the same team twice. With 30 teams and roughly 25 weekends in the season, you can't save every contender for later — the strategy is when you spend them.

Why a weekend slate beats picking every game
A full NBA week can have 50 or more games. Ask a group to pick all of them and you'll get three diehards and a lot of blank entries. Daily pools have the opposite problem: picks every night means reminders every night, and players drift away by December.
A weekend slate gives the NBA the rhythm that makes football pools work: one picking moment per week, a natural Friday deadline, and a Sunday-night finish where the week's winner is settled. Eight games is enough to separate the sharp picker from the lucky one without turning the pool into homework.
What your players should know about picking the NBA
Basketball rewards the players who check the news. A few habits make a real difference over a season:
- •Injury and rest news breaks late. Because each game locks at its own tip-off, players can set Friday's picks early and still change a Sunday pick after the final injury report.
- •Back-to-backs matter. Plenty of teams play Friday and Saturday, and a tired road team on the second night is a classic upset spot.
- •Spreads are big for a reason. In an against-the-spread pool, a 12-point favorite has to win by 13 — blowout-prone matchups make underdogs live.
- •The season is long. Quarter standings give everyone a fresh race every couple of months, so a slow November doesn't mean a lost season.

We never touch the pot
Plenty of NBA pools play for bragging rights. If yours has a buy-in, you collect it yourself — Venmo, Zelle, or cash — and you pay the winners. Pick'em Builder can display the buy-in and payout rules you set and who's paid, but no money ever passes through us. We keep score; you keep the pot.
Pricing
Free for pools up to 10 players — every format, live scoring, full standings. Bigger group? Unlimited is $49/year (about $4 a month) or $5/month, for as many players and pools as you want. Players always join free.
Questions
- How many NBA games do we pick each week?
- Eight by default — the best matchups from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The commissioner can swap any game for another (including a midweek game) or expand the slate to 12 or 16 games.
- When do NBA picks lock?
- Each game locks at its own tip-off. Picks on later games stay open, so a player can wait on a Sunday injury report without risking their Friday picks.
- Can we start an NBA pool after the season has started?
- Yes — start any week of the season. Your standings begin with your first weekend, so nobody has to catch up on games they never had a chance to pick.
- Can we pick NBA games against the spread?
- Yes. NBA pools can be graded straight up or against the spread. (Hockey pools are straight up only, since the NHL puck line is almost always 1.5 goals.)
- How does an NBA survivor pool work?
- Each weekend you pick one team from the slate to win. If it wins, you advance; if it loses, you're out. Once you've used a team, it's gone for the rest of the season — and with 30 teams and about 25 weekends, you'll end up leaning on some teams you'd rather not.
- Do players need the app or an account?
- There's no app and no player accounts. Players open your link, enter a name and email, and start picking — the whole thing takes about a minute.
- What does it cost?
- Free for pools up to 10 players. For bigger groups, Unlimited is $49/year or $5/month and covers every pool you run, in every sport. Players never pay anything to us.
