Confidence Pool: Rank Your Picks, Score Your Conviction
A confidence pool is a pick'em with one twist that changes everything: you don't just pick winners, you rank them. Your surest pick is worth the most points, your coin flip is worth one, and every number gets used exactly once. Getting a big number right wins weeks. Getting it wrong costs you more than any other mistake.
Pick'em Builder runs confidence pools for the NFL, college football, the NBA, and the NHL โ the ranking, the duplicate-number checks, the locks, and the scoring all handled for you.

How a confidence pool works
- 1
Choose the sport and slate
Football pools rank the NFL slate, a college top-games slate, or both combined. NBA and NHL pools rank an 8-game weekend slate (or 12 or 16 if the commissioner expands it).
- 2
Pick and rank in one form
Players pick a winner for each game and give each one a number โ highest for the surest pick, 1 for the least sure. The form won't save two games with the same number.
- 3
Each game locks at its own start
Early games lock at kickoff or tip-off while later games stay open, so players can finish their card as the weekend goes.
- 4
Points add up live
A correct pick earns its confidence number. Weekly scores and season standings update as games go final.
Confidence pools by sport
Football confidence
Rank the NFL slate, a college top-games slate, or both on one card. The classic office-pool format, with quarter standings for the long season.
Set this up โConfidence against the spread
Football picks graded against the frozen opening line, then weighted by confidence. Every game is close to a coin flip by design, so your ranking is pure edge.
Set this up โNBA confidence
Rank the weekend's 8 marquee games, 8 down to 1. A few NBA mismatches each weekend are near-locks โ the skill is knowing which ones.
Set this up โNHL confidence
Rank the weekend's hockey slate. With so many one-goal games, the gap between your top pick and your middle picks matters more than in any other sport.

How the scoring works, with real numbers
With 8 games on the slate, you assign the numbers 1 through 8, so a perfect week is worth 36 points (8 + 7 + 6 + โฆ + 1). Put your 8 on a contender hosting a rebuilding team and your 1 on a coin-flip division game: hit the 8 and miss the 1, and you bank 8 of the 9 points riding on those two games. Flip those numbers and the same results earn you 1.
A full 16-game NFL week uses 1 through 16, worth up to 136 points. Bye weeks shrink the slate, and the numbers simply run from 1 to however many games there are.
Slate size changes the strategy
On a 16-game NFL card, the top and bottom of your ranking get the attention, but the middle numbers โ roughly 6 through 11 โ quietly decide most weeks, because that's where the genuinely uncertain games live. On an 8-game NBA or NHL card, every number is a big chunk of the week: a missed 8 is more than a fifth of the maximum.
- โขUse the spread as a ranking guide even in a straight-up pool: bigger favorite, bigger number โ then adjust for injuries and news.
- โขDon't waste thought on the bottom. A wrong 1 or 2 costs almost nothing; spend your time on the top four.
- โขIn hockey, compress your confidence. Even heavy NHL favorites lose regularly, so don't treat your third pick as much safer than your sixth.
- โขChasing late in the season? A contrarian high number on an underdog is the only way to gain ground on a leader who picks chalk.
What makes it easy
No ranking mistakes
Duplicate numbers are rejected before a card saves, so nobody turns in an invalid ranking and nobody has to fix it by hand.
Two-minute setup
Pick the sport, choose confidence scoring, share the link. The slate loads automatically every week.
Reminders and recaps
Players get a reminder before games start and a recap with the week's points afterward.
Live point totals
Scores update as games end. No adding up confidence points on a calculator Monday morning.
Quarter standings
Season-long pools can split into quarters, so a bad September doesn't end anyone's year.
Players join free
One link, a name and email, no app. Pools up to 10 players are free to run.
We never touch the pot
Confidence pools often pay a weekly high score and a season champion. Set it up however your group likes: you collect buy-ins yourself by Venmo, Zelle, or cash, and you pay the winners. Pick'em Builder shows your payout rules and the standings that decide them โ it never holds or moves the money.
Pricing
Free for pools up to 10 players โ every format, live scoring, full standings. Bigger group? Unlimited is $49/year (about $4 a month) or $5/month, for as many players and pools as you want. Players always join free.
Questions
- How many confidence points are available each week?
- It depends on the slate. Ranking N games uses the numbers 1 through N, so 8 games is worth up to 36 points and 16 games is worth up to 136.
- Can two games get the same confidence number?
- No. Every number is used exactly once per week, and the pick form won't save a card with a duplicate.
- What happens if I miss a game?
- An unpicked game scores zero, and whatever number you would have put on it is gone. Pick reminders go out before games start to help avoid that.
- Can I change my rankings after the first game starts?
- Games that have started are locked, but picks on games that haven't started yet stay open until their own start time.
- Does confidence scoring work for the NBA and NHL?
- Yes. Both run on weekend slates โ 8 games by default, so you rank 8 down to 1. The commissioner can expand the slate to 12 or 16.
- Can I combine confidence points with against-the-spread picks?
- Yes, for football. Picks are graded against the frozen opening line and then weighted by your confidence number.
- Do players need to sign up for anything?
- No account and no app. Players open your link, enter a name and email, and start ranking.
